Man charged with indecent exposure at Meijer
Candice WilliamsA 35-year-old man wanted allegedly for exposing himself to a woman at a Rochester Hills Meijer store last week turned himself in to police, officials said Monday.
Daniel Alfredo Torres-Rivas is charged with aggravated indecent exposure, a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $2,000, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Torres-Rivas, who lives in Pontiac, also is accused of entering the country illegally.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, on Aug. 16 at the Meijer at 3175 Rochester Road, the suspect stood near a 24-year-old woman. She moved away and as she looked back toward him, he exposed his genitals and made “sexually explicit motions in her direction,” officials wrote in a statement Monday.
The woman called 911. Deputies arrived and collected physical biological evidence at the scene, officials said.
On Friday, the Sheriff’s Office received a tip that the suspect lived at an address in Pontiac. Detectives went to the address provided, but did not locate the suspect. Shortly after, detectives received a call from Torres-Rivas’ attorney. Torres-Rivas turned himself in and was arrested.
Torres-Rivas provided officials with an El Salvador passport as identification, officials said. Police did not find any prior criminal history.
“Detectives contacted the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in regard to his status in the United States. According to ICE, Daniel Torres-Rivas is in the United States illegally,” officials wrote in a statement. “He was confirmed to be from El Salvador and was denied a visa. ICE agents placed a detainer on Daniel Torres-Rivas to begin the deportation process.”
Torres-Rivas was arraigned; bond was set at $1,000 personal bond. On Monday, agents with ICE picked him up from the Oakland County Jail.
“I find it completely disgusting and sad that this individual, who is illegally in our country, felt comfortable enough here to harass a woman in a very public store ...,” Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard said in a statement Monday. “I thank the tipster who helped us lock up this sick pervert.”
