MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Protestors gathered in Myrtle Beach for about six hours on Monday to rally against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Some protestors told WMBF News they were there to represent immigrants scared to speak out as federal immigration enforcement operations are carried out across the country.

“We’re here to spread the word and let everyone know that we are going to speak up for our people because they’re not alone,” one protester said.

Many of Monday’s protesters were young people who said they were there on behalf of undocumented parents or family members.

“My parents have been really scared to get deported recently, they’ve been actually scared to come outside,” said one protester.

“I have family who are illegal and just...ICE is separating families, so it’s not okay, we gotta stick together,” said another.

Protesters said ever since President Donald Trump stepped back into the Oval Office, it has been a lot scarier for their families. They added it’s a sentiment in immigrant communities across the country.

“Kids aren’t being sent to schools because their parents are scared. They’re scared that if they send their children to school and ICE comes and takes their children, they’ll never see their children again,” said one protester, who also said she was there on behalf of her undocumented family. “Until this day, until today, there are still immigrant children who are not with their parents because they’ve been separated.”

So, protesters said in a time when it’s easy to feel discouraged, what they can do is speak up.

“We’re just trying to make the best future for our children, you know, we want to make it right. Some people can’t talk, some people are scared to be loud, and we’re not going to be scared to be loud.”

There’s no word yet on whether any deportations have happened in the Grand Strand or Pee Dee.

WMBF News has reached out to a spokesperson for the Horry County Police Department, who said ICE is not required to alert local police when executing warrants.
