Man charged in pregnant woman’s murder in Wentzville

ST. CHARLES COUNTY (First Alert 4) -- A grand jury indicted a 39-year-old man after a woman pregnant with twins was killed in Wentzville in October.
Court documents show Darryl K. Tyson Jr. was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action, and domestic assault. Prosecutors allege he shot and killed 28-year-old BreAnna Johnson and her two unborn children.
A grand jury filed an indictment on December 19. Tyson had already been in custody on a domestic violence charge. Judge Deborah Jean Alessi set Tyson’s bond for the murder case at $1 million - cash only, records show.
Wentzville Police responded to the 100 block of Katie Lynn Court on October 31 and found Johnson dead. Johnson had two children, 6 months old and 17 months old, in addition to being four months pregnant with twins.
Police investigated Johnson’s death as a domestic violence situation. The grand jury indictment says Johnson and Tyson were in a relationship. The domestic violence victim support organization JADASA told First Alert 4 after Johnson’s death that she sought help in the months prior.
Twenty-four hours before the homicide, police were called to her home. Court documents allege Tyson physically assaulted Johnson by “throwing a phone striking Victim 1 in the head”.
