Release the Trans Cut of Pixar's 'Win or Lose'

Release the Trans Cut of Pixar's 'Win or Lose'
The Issue
On December 17th, 2024, trades revealed that Disney was cutting a major storyline from the Pixar series for Disney+, Win or Lose; the storyline in question revolved around a transgender character. The public response to this decision has been understandably negative and scathing towards Disney. The company's official statement on the matter read:
"When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline."
It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to know that this is blatantly an empty damage-control statement that spits in the face of the value of LGBTQ+ representation in family media. The fact that this decision was made barely a month after Disney did this exact same thing with a transgender-focused episode of Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur speaks volumes about their true motivations.
In the troubling, frightening times we live in, where LGBTQ+ individuals and communities continue to be threatened with persecution and denial of basic human rights, this continued suppression of authentic, meaningful queer storytelling simply cannot be accepted.
Post-production on Win or Lose wrapped as far back as summer 2023 (and the show was originally scheduled to come out that Christmas). This surely means that there is a FINISHED, fully rendered and fully edited cut of the show, with all of the inclusive material left intact, sitting in the vault waiting to release any time, but Disney chooses not to.
With the show already on track to release, sadly edited and censored, Disney's commitment to this major step backwards is still something we should not stand for.
I'm calling on the Walt Disney Company and it's executives to release the uncut, trans-inclusive cut of the show, and reverse their cowardly, spineless decision to suppress queer voices for the sake of monetary gain from hateful, bigoted conservatives that they're so afraid of alienating for foolish reasons.

If it’s okay for all children to see “Up!” depict a couple struggling with infertility and death without prior conversation, it’s okay for non-Trans children to see Transgender children like a friend they may one day or already have. Transgender kids deserve to see themselves in a big way like a Disney movie, and realize in the most magical way that it’s okay to be themselves. Preface the movie with the topic at hand if it comes down to that. The parents that feel the need to have that conversation can have it before watching the film. But don’t take this opportunity away from the children who need it most. Please. Give them what many of us growing up were never given the chance to have: hope.

It took me until my 30s to come out as gender fluid partly because these issues are so stigmatized. We need more stories that normalize trans people and portray their experiences realistically. Treating this as a subject that can only be discussed behind closed doors will only make things worse.
II have viewed the animatic/storyboard for one of the scenes that was removed concerning Kai being transgender. As someone who knew there was something different about myself from a very young age, and a trans woman who lived in the closet for decades at this point, I can recognize how powerful that scene is. It's a scene that I wish I had seen when I was 12 and crying myself to sleep over the knowledge that I was starting to growing facial hair, among other changes. It would have given me the hope that there were people that would understand me and help me through what I was going through. But the scene back in.
