Texoma Toys for Tots to distribute over 37,000 gifts across the area
DENISON, Texas (KXII) - Toys for Tots is the reason for the season, as they have the joy of making Christmas a little more merry.
Over 37,000 toys, books, and puzzles will make their way into the hands of children across Texoma this holiday season.
“Our mission specifically with Grayson and Fannin county is to reach back down and pull people up,” said Texoma Toys for Tots Local Coordinator Taylor Price.
Just a few years ago, Toys for Tots gave gifts to 2,000 kids in Texoma. This year, distribution day is warming the hearts of over 8,000 kids, and impacting countless families across the area.
“I’m actually here with my girlfriend,” said Toys for Tots recipient Colin Thomas. “We’re actually out shopping for Christmas gifts for our oldest two; for our 12 and 10 year old. I love Toys for Tots, it’s a fantastic program.”
“It makes my family happier,” said Michael Daniels, a former volunteer for Toys for Tots. “When you give several gifts to the little ones, especially the ones from 5, 6, on up to about 10.”
20 years ago, Daniels began volunteering with Toys for Tots. Now, in a time of need for his family, they’re giving back to him. He, his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids are receiving the gift of Christmas, something he was able to bless families with in the past.
“We have several volunteers that work with us now who were once recipients of toys for tots or maybe still are recipients of Toys for Tots this year, and they come back and volunteer their time to help,” said Price.
