WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WKRC) - Police reported a man was shot in West Chester after a homeowner accused him of intruding.

West Chester police said that around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday a homeowner claimed to have heard noises on his balcony and when he went to investigate, found an intruder in his home at Stoney Creek apartment complex.

The man said he shot the suspected intruder, who authorities took to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died in the hospital. On Monday, the Butler County Coroner's Office identified him as Isaiah Erickson, 22.

Residents of the apartment complex were grappling with shock and fear after the shooting shattered the peace of their usually quiet neighborhood. Usually a safe area, the community was now facing the unsettling reality of violence close to home.

Lori Martin, who lives across the street from the complex with her family, expressed her disbelief and concern following the incident.

"I might not let my kids play outside anymore by themselves. Make them play in the backyard," said Martin. "It makes me kind of scared, but I'm kind of in shock. I didn't know anything like that would happen this close to home."
