Former Gaston County teacher accused of sex crimes facing more charges
Man facing peeping charges in addition to initial offenses
GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A former Gaston County teacher who was previously accused of sex crimes is facing new charges, according to court records.
Kristopher Kirtley was arrested in late July after a multi-agency investigation revealed he sent and received photos and videos of underage girls engaged in sexual activity, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.
Following that arrest, he was charged with indecent liberties with a child and second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Now, months later, court records show Kirtley is also facing two counts of felony secret peeping.
Prior to his July arrest, Kirtley was a teacher and wrestling coach at South Point High School in Belmont. Gaston County Schools said he resigned on June 24. He had been at the school since 2022 after serving in the same roles at Mount Holly Middle School from 2014-2022.
Deputies said in July that they first became aware of allegations against Kirtley after former students reported receiving inappropriate messages from him soliciting sex.
Records show the initial charges were filed in Lincoln County, while the peeping charges stemmed from Gaston County.
