David Rockefeller's Sprawling Maine Estate Sells for $19 Million
Take a look inside the legendary philanthropist's Mount Desert Island home and its gorgeous surroundings.
After philanthropist David Rockefeller died last March, his heirs put his Upper East Side townhouse up for sale. Ringing Point, his property on Mount Desert Island in Maine, followed, with an asking price of $19 million. It recently sold for that amount, and all the proceeds will go to charity. Ringing Point is located in the town of Seal Harbor, Maine, on Mount Desert Island.
It was purchased by David's father, John D. Rockefeller, in the 1960s.
David's wife, Peggy, designed the seven-bedroom main house in 1972.
She also designed the gardens around the property, including the ones near its granite swimming pool.

The estate is named for the #4 bell buoy that rings quietly off-shore.
The main house has seven bedrooms and five full bathrooms.
The home is set among towering pine trees.
The living room has floor-to-ceiling windows and two fireplaces.
It features views across a lawn to Great Harbor.

There's a seating area nearby with a raised-hearth fireplace.
