MANILA -- Supporters of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte gathered at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Tuesday morning, to show support upon his arrival in Manila.

The former President arrived from Hong Kong aboard Cathay Airways at approximately 9:30 AM.

In anticipation of his arrival, the Philippine National Police deployed personnel to the area and set up "human barricades" restricting access to the VIP arrival section.

Among the supporters was Rose, a 34-year-old chef from Muntinlupa, who expressed her dedication by skipping work to go to the airport and show her support for Duterte.

"Bilang supporter, 'di niya deserve yung makulong kasi ang tanda na niya tapos siya lang mag-isa. Malungkot po, nagulat ako, nagalit ako sa nangyari," she said.

Douglas Uy, 55, another supporter of the former President and an employee of a Chinese brand with business at the airport, also expressed his support.

According to him, it was a coincidence that he happened to be at the airport. However, as a supporter, he decided to pass by the VIP arrival area to show his support.

Duterte, 79, was arrested by police officers upon his arrival, acting on a warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) over his war on drugs. The former president faces a charge of "the crime against humanity of murder", according to the ICC.

The Presidential Communications Office said the INTERPOL Manila received the official copy of the warrant of arrest from ICC before dawn on Tuesday.

Duterte has questioned the legality of his arrest, saying: "What is the law and what is the crime that I committed?"

Present at the NAIA Terminal 3 on Tuesday were Senator Bong Go, who addressed the former president's supporters before his arrival, as well as former Executive Secretary Atty. Vic Rodriguez, former Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary, Silvestre Bello who was appointed by former President Rodrigo Duterte, and actor Philip Salvador.
