Deputies seize over 13,000 lethal doses of fentanyl in drug bust; 1 arrested

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office says over two pounds of fentanyl plus multiple other drugs were seized after a search warrant was conducted following an arrest.
According to officials, Calvin Rachal, 53, was taken into custody by the Baton Rouge Police Department with three pounds of marijuana. Once the department alerted the sheriff’s office, EBRSO agents obtained and executed a search warrant at Rachal’s residence as well as another location.
The following items were seized during the search:
- 2.2 pounds of fentanyl (approx. 13,300 lethal doses)
- 60 pounds of marijuana
- 6 packages of THC gummies
- $23,386
- Ruger 9mm handgun
- Taurus .410/45 caliber revolver
- WASR 7.62X39 rifle
- Remington 12 gauge shotgun

Rachal faces charges with both BRPD and EBRSO:
- PWITD Schedule I Narcotics (marijuana, BRPD)
- PWITD Schedule I Narcotics (2 counts, EBRSO)
- PWITD Schedule II Narcotics (fentanyl, EBRSO)
- Illegal Carrying of a Firearm w/Drugs (EBRSO)
