One lucky teacher got a unique — but hard-to-come-by — Valentine's Day gift from a student: a carton of one-dozen eggs.

In a post shared to Reddit, the teacher wrote: "I got eggs as a Valentine’s present from a student."

The gift is both an odd one, and a rare one, considering the current egg shortage facing Americans.

At many grocery stores, egg purchases are limited to one-dozen per customer as the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) know as bird flu ravages the nation's farms. Bird flu has also led to egg price increases at both grocery stores and restaurants.

Reddit users have weighed in on the interesting gift, with many noting how rare it is to have access to eggs amid the current shortage.

"With these prices, I'd actually be thrilled," wrote one commenter.

Added another: "I just saw large egg prices starting at $14 the other day. Not even fancy ones like those seem to be. Lucky you, I'm jealous."

"We have chickens and they've been a godsend lately," wrote another commenter. "Our grocery stores have been sold out of eggs for a couple weeks now. Our friends really appreciate the eggs we've been able to spare. I'd say this was an amazing gift. Your student must think very highly of you."

The poster responded: "Yes, I told her it’s my favorite gift ever and I meant it. It’s so thoughtful!"

Many have advised the teacher who received them to bake a cake or cupcakes to share with her class. Still others have noted that the eggs look to be farm-fresh due to their color and size variations.

"Eat these eggs!" wrote one commenter. "They’re gonna be the best you ever had, these look like they’re from someone’s coop, way better than store bought, really rich yolks."

The poster responded, "I’m definitely going to eat some of them!"

Meanwhile, some other teachers have expressed a bit of jealousy.

Wrote one: "Students are the best. I wish one would give me eggs. I've gotten an onion and a potato. Eggs would make it a full breakfast."
