Our History

In 2021, former school board members Tina Descovich and Tiffany Justice united to establish Moms for Liberty, an organization dedicated to empowering parents to advocate effectively for their children at school board meetings and across all levels of government. Drawing from their firsthand experience, they recognized that the fundamental right of parents to guide their children’s upbringing was under threat. They witnessed policies and curricula that hindered children’s mastery of essential skills and jeopardized their overall development and education.

With an initial investment of $500, Tina designed the logo, launched the website, and purchased a box of t-shirts for resale. In January, they founded the first two chapters of Moms for Liberty in their respective home counties in Florida.

They reached out to Jennifer Pippin in Indian River County and Ashley Hall in Brevard County because they were already mobilizing parents to oppose stringent COVID restrictions on students. Both women enthusiastically agreed to launch chapters without a moment’s hesitation.

Within two weeks, Barbara Abboud in Nassau County, New York, and Jen Fold in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, contacted them to establish the first chapters beyond Florida’s borders, setting Moms for Liberty on a trajectory of rapid growth and success.

By the close of 2021, Moms for Liberty had achieved remarkable milestones: $150,000 in t-shirt sales, 165 chapters spanning 33 states, a membership of 70,000, and victories in 56 school board elections.

Moms for Liberty was just getting started and that statement holds true to this day.

Bess was born in Philadelphia, PA but left for Norfolk, VA at the age of seven due to gang violence in the area. Shortly after the move to Virginia, her family moved to Jacksonville, FL where she learned that her zip code didn’t define her, a message she hopes to spread to America.
