Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after around 100,000 organic eggs were stolen from a Greencastle egg producer.

The eggs, currently worth approximately $40,000, were stolen Saturday from Pete and Gerry's Organics in Greencastle, troopers said in a news release.

Troopers said the eggs were taken from the back of a distribution trailer around 8:40 p.m.

When asked about the event, some locals said they do not believe it would impact them directly, but understand the overall impact this theft could have on the region.

"There's a bunch of stuff going on,and like, with all the tariffs happening there's gonna be impact on pricing," said Ben Ditch. "It's not good news that you're hearing that 100,000 eggs got stolen."

On its website, Pete and Gerry's Organics describes itself as an egg producer that aims to set a "higher standard for farming practices and animal care across an entire industry".

The company released the following statement to CBS 21:

Pete & Gerry’s is aware of a recent incident in Franklin County, Pennsylvania and we are actively working with local law enforcement to investigate. We take this matter seriously and are committed to resolving it as quickly as possible. Due to the ongoing investigation we cannot comment any further on this matter.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg at (717) 264-5161.
