“Please do not forget that from war, from conflicts, come a huge amount of emissions,” COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev says on this week’s episode of Zero.

This week, the Zero podcast is in Baku, Azerbaijan, for the 29th Conference of the Parties — the annual climate summit that brings together heads of state and diplomats from around the world for two weeks of intense negotiations.

On this episode, Akshat Rathi talks with producer Mythili Rao about what’s in store in the two weeks ahead, sharing highlights from his conversation with COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev. Despite concerns that NGOs and protesters will have limited access to the proceedings, Babayev insists that Azerbaijan is committed to making the summit a success.
