CANYON, Texas (KVII) — Ulise DeLao, the Canyon man indicted for manslaughter in the death of Brittany Torres, who was the mother of his child will be able to keep his parental rights to that child. That was the ruling from a Randall County Judge today.
DeLao had confessed back in May that he ran over Torres.
Families from both sides were present in court.
The prosecuting attorney, representing Torres’ mom, argued that DeLao engages in conduct that could physically or emotionally harm the child.
In court, security footage from back in May showed DeLao dragging Torres out of a lifted truck, twice.
Later that night, DeLao ran over Torres in front of their home, killing her.
Judge James Anderson ultimately denied the right to terminate DeLao's parental rights.
