Move over Canadians – Donald Trump’s forthcoming return to the White House has Americans looking for the nearest northern exit.
Following the Republican party leader’s historical presidential win many Americans seem to be considering leaving the country altogether according to Google Trends.
Google searches for ‘‘Move to Canada” skyrocketed in the United States on Wednesday morning around 6:00 a.m., shortly after Trump was declared as the next U.S. president.

Trump soared his way to the coveted presidential spot once again, defeating Harris in a nail-bitingly close battle. Winning the popular vote, he received over 72 million votes (51 per cent of voters) versus Harris’s 67 million (47.5 per cent.) Harris joined the presidential race in late July, after President Biden, 81, announced he’d be ending his 2024 campaign for the White House, amid concerns of his age and poor debate performance.
Earlier this year, Trump, 78, faced multiple controversies from an assassination attempt in July which left him with a bloodied ear, to being convicted on 34 felony counts of falsified business records months earlier in May.
The businessman turned politician will become the first convicted felon president in U.S. history, along with being the oldest elected, and the first former president to return to the White House since 1892. As for the four criminal cases brought against him, this U.S. presidential election victory will essentially get him off the hook, at least for the four years he occupies the White House.
