Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Monday shredded Vice President Kamala Harris over her political record, blasting her as a “war hawk.”

Harris burst onto the scene as a leading Democratic candidate for president following President Joe Biden’s decision to bow out of the race Sunday. Biden endorsed Harris to take over the White House in his announcement, but she has yet to earn an official party nomination.

Kennedy, a vocal pacifist, told reporters he is unconvinced by Harris's track record of handling conflict.

Kamala Harris is a party of war,” he said. “She’s a war hawk. The Democrat party [sic] was always the peace party. Kamala Harris is a war hawk on Ukraine, she’s a war hawk on China. I think that we should be figuring out ways to coexist with the rest of the world as best we can.”

“Of course, we need to protect our national security,” he continued. “I don’t think she’s going to do anything about the national deficit. I’ve never heard her speak about the chronic disease epidemic. I think she’s a product of the corporate control of our democracy.”

Kennedy also condemned Harris for her history as a California prosecutor, saying she “has one of the worst civil rights records of any public official.” Her involvement in the state’s use of incarcerated people for labor, he said, is akin to “a modern version of slavery.”

The Biden-Harris campaign is now being branded as the “Harris campaign,” eliciting a wave of donations. Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue announced Sunday night it had raked in $46.7 million in small-dollar gifts for Harris.
