NEW YORK, N.Y. — Tesla is readying to lay off parts of its New York working base, according to MassLive.com, an Advance/SILive.com sister site.

Telsa Inc. has been suffering in 2024, with Kelley Blue Book divulging that Elon Musk’s electric car company had its market share slide down to 51.3% in 2024’s first quarter compared to the 61.7% it boasted the year prior, as detailed on MassLive.com.

Despite the over 10% decline, American consumers purchased 268,909 electric vehicles (EVs) in the first three months of 2024 — a 2.6% increase compared to 2023’s opening quarter, according to KBB.

As Tesla battles the waning market share, The New York Times reported that Musk declared in April that 10% of the company’s employees would be axed, totaling a staggering 14,000 people.

Unfortunately, New York Tesla workers won’t be able to escape the chopping block. According to the MassLive.com report, 345 employees in Buffalo will be laid off on five staggered dates throughout the summer months, according to the New York Department of Labor WARN database. WARN notices are federal regulations requiring employers to give 60 days notice to employees and the state of operation when mass layoffs are planned.

In the first round of layoffs, 285 employees will be affected, with employee separations beginning July 15, with 280 employees at the 1339 South Park Ave. location, and five employees from the 1216 South Park Ave. location, the media outlet reported.

WARN specified that 26 employees at 1339 South Park Ave. will face separations on July 30.

The third series of layoffs will hit the 1339 South Park Ave. location again on Aug. 1, claiming another four workers, according to the database. Four days after that, on Aug. 5, three more personnel will face layoffs at 1339 South Park Ave. The final layoffs conclude on Aug/ 11, claiming 27 workers: 26 at 1339 South Park Ave., and one at 1216 South Park Ave.

Of the 345 workers, none were represented by a union, WARN said.

Workers in other states like California, Nevada and Texas have — or will — feel the same tightening as their New York counterparts, according to the report.
