Here's where displaced Steuben County residents can seek shelter in Corning, Hornell

A pair of shelters are available for Steuben County residents displaced by flash flooding Friday as remnants of Tropical Storm Debby moved through the area.

Steuben County declared a state of emergency and ordered evacuations of Jasper, Woodhull, Addison and Campbell due to flood damage.

A Red Cross shelter is being established at the Corning-Painted Post High School Fieldhouse. Addison Central School District buses were transporting impacted residents to the shelter Friday.

Another shelter "open to all individuals and families in need of essential services" had been established at Hornell High School located at 134 Seneca St. in Hornell. Signage on the school Saturday morning directed people to the Corning shelter.

Portions of 12 roads in Steuben County have been closed under an emergency order.

Many other roadways throughout Steuben County may also be damaged or impassable, the county advised. No unnecessary travel should occur until further notice, the county said.

Steuben County encourages residents with damages in need of assistance to reach out to the 211 Helpline by dialing 2-1-1 and providing their address, contact information and type of damages. Individuals will be connected with the appropriate community service organization that can assess with their needs.

Residents should exercise extreme caution during their commute and avoid driving through water-covered roads.
