WWII veteran celebrates 100th birthday

COWLES, Neb. (KSNB) - A World War II veteran from Cowles celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday.
Wayne Gerlach was born on July 27, 1924 and fought in WWII with the Army 222nd Infantry Regiment from July 1944 to September of 1945.
Once Gerlach returned home from war, he began working for the United States Postal Service in 1950 until he retired in 1984.
Gerlach said he doesn’t know where he would be if he hadn’t joined the service.
In his retired life, Gerlach now stays busy at his home in Cowles, finding anything to do around his yard.
