BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - A 6-year-old who was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash in Baldwin County early Monday morning has died and a Summerdale man is now charged with manslaughter, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said Tuesday.

The wreck happened around 3:08 a.m. Monday on Baldwin County 28 near George Younce Road, about 5 mile south of Robertsdale, according to ALEA.

Authorities said the child was a passenger in the 2003 GMC Yukon when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned. According to ALEA, the juvenile was not in a child restraint at the time of the crash and was ejected. He later died at an area hospital.

The driver of the GMC, Zelvin G. Pavon-Gomez, 25, was also injured and taken to South Baldwin Medical Center in Foley. Pavon-Gomez was later arrested and booked into the Baldwin County Jail on a manslaughter charge.

Baldwin County District Judge Bill Scully on Wednesday set Pavon-Gomez’s bond at $200,000.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the crash.
