BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) — A 6-year-old was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning in Baldwin County.
Zelvin Geovani Pavon Gomez, 25, of Summerdale, is charged with manslaughter in the death of 6-year-old Karla Avigail Merlon, according to the criminal complaint.
The crash happened around 3:10 a.m.on Baldwin County 28 near George Younce Road, approximately five mile south of Robertsdale.
6-year-old Merlon was a passenger in a 2003 GMC Yukon, was critically injured when the GMC left the roadway and overturned. Merlon was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the truck.
The child later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Gomez was injured and transported to South Baldwin Medical Center in Foley before being arrested. He is the subject of an ICE immigration hold.
According to court documents Gomez was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
