Homeowner shoots and kills intruder on West side property

SAN ANTONIO -A homeowner on the city's West side shot and killed a man after he repeatedly refused to leave the property and lunged at the homeowner and his wife.

Police were called to a residence on Sunday around12:59 am on 826 Allende Dr. for a report of a shooting.

According to investigators, a man came to the door of the residence and was asked to leave by the homeowner. The man returned a short time later and was again asked to leave.

The homeowner later heard noises in the backyard and upon investigation, encountered the same man. Police say the homeowner then retrieved a shotgun and ordered the man to leave the property. Investigators reported that the man lunged at the homeowner and his wife, prompting the homeowner to fire one shot, striking the man in the stomach.

Police and medical personnel arrived on the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful. The man, believed to be around 47 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed against the homeowner at this time, as police continue their investigation. The homeowner reported fearing for their safety when the man lunged at them.

Neither the homeowner nor the wife were reported to be injured during the incident.
