WASHINGTON (7News) — Eight people were arrested Wednesday night while trying to protest on the field during the Congressional Baseball Game at National Park, according to U.S. Capitol Police.
Officials said they quickly stopped and arrested the protesters who are being charged with federal charges including interference with a member of law enforcement.
Before the game began, climate change protesters were seen chanting and holding up signs outside the stadium. The group of protesters arrived outside the stadium just before 7 p.m. when the game was scheduled to begin.

The summer tradition dates back to 1909, but in recent years the event has drawn more scrutiny and security, especially after a gunman opened fire on Republicans who were gathered for an early morning practice in 2017.
Capitol Police officials said early Wednesday that they were aware of the planned climate change protest. Officials partnered with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and Washington Nationals security for the game.
On Wednesday evening, protesters were seen chanting with signs that read, “Stop playing games with our future,” and shirts that read, “End Fossil Fuels.”
