Doug Emhoff reacts to Andy Samberg playing him on SNL: 'I approve'

Doug Emhoff is sharing his thoughts on Andy Samberg's recent portrayal of him on Saturday Night Live. 

During a visit to The Jennifer Hudson Show on Tuesday, the Second Gentleman reacted to Samberg and Maya Rudolph playing him and Vice President Kamala Harris in the show’s season 50 premiere over the weekend.

“I’ve been watching that show my whole life and to think somebody’s playing me, first of all, it’s just so… wow!” Emhoff said. “And then I gotta hand it [to him], Andy Samberg did a good job!”

When asked by host Jennifer Hudson if he approved of Samberg’s performance, Emhoff continued, “I approve. Andy, good job. I love… the second gentlemensch line was pretty good. His little Dougie coming in.”

The season 50 cold open saw ABC News checking in on the Harris and Donald Trump campaign rallies. Samberg entered the stage by dancing along to Cali Swag District’s song “Teach Me How to Dougie” before taking to the podium and jokingly referring to Emhoff as “Charlie Brown if he was a grown up.” 

Emhoff was amused by Samberg's dancing in particular. “He was like, trying to do the Dougie. I don’t know what that move was, but it was pretty good,” he told Hudson. “Andy, good job!” 

He also had only positive things to say about Rudolph’s performance, too. “Maya Rudolph, she’s so good as Kamala,” he added. “She did a really good job.” 

The segment also featured comedian Jim Gaffigan playing Harris’ running mate Tim Walz, as well as James Austin Johnson as Trump, Bowen Yang as J.D. Vance, and Dana Carvey as President Joe Biden.
