Soledad teacher arrested for sex with a student, police say
Soledad police said that video evidence showed a 34-year-old teacher engaged in sexual intercourse with a former 15-year-old student.
Main Street Middle School teacher Marina Ramirez Rico was arrested and booked for five felony counts of having sex with a minor, per the Monterey County Jail. Rico is out after posting a $50,000 bail.
Police say the case came to light when they served a search warrant at the victim's home on an unrelated matter and allegedly found a video on the teen's phone of the two having sex. Police were looking for weapons tied to other people living in the home.
Police said that the crime occurred when Rico was a teacher at Soledad High School and the male victim was a student at the school.
The district was notified and has been cooperating with the investigation, said police.
When detectives found Rico and she was taken into custody, more evidence was found of the crime.
Soledad police are asking the public if they or someone they know had inappropriate contact with Rico to call Detective Lozano at 831-223-5164.
Soledad police believe there could be more victims.
