Boston police are searching for suspects after a Monday afternoon shooting that killed one man and injured another inside a barbershop.
Boston police said the call came in at approximately 12:55 p.m. for a shooting in the area of Erie and Washington streets. Responding officers located two adult men with gunshot wounds at the Exclusive Barber Shop, located at 184 Washington St.
"I heard the shots and I stood up. I saw three kids come out and then I saw the actual gunman, dressed all in black. And he ran right across the street," said Javier Nieves, who lives nearby and knows the staff.
Renier Thompson said his grandson was shot in the head.
"He was a good kid. Skinny. Wasn't threatening. You look at him, you wouldn't be scared of him," said Thompson.
Witnesses said the gunman walked straight to the back and targeted the victim while he was getting a haircut.
"Execution-style, that's what the barbers are saying," said Nieves.
Thompson said he had spoken to his grandson's mother on Sunday.
"What hurt me most was, I told her, 'You don't want to lose your son to the streets,'" he said.
The two victims were taken to local hospitals, where one was pronounced dead, police said. The second victim's injuries were not life-threatening.
Police said they believe the two men were customers and that the shooting was not random.
"We do not believe this was a random event," said Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin. "We are currently spreading out in the neighborhood, looking for witnesses."
Employees of the barbershop said their cameras did record video of the shooting and they hope it will help investigators to catch the perpetrator.
"To all the young people, don't follow these gangs, bad company. Get you a job. Make your mothers and fathers proud," said Thompson.
