Lott, Texas community mourning tragic death of young man critically injured while attending sick calf
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Ace Patton Ashford, a “most cherished young member” of the Lott community, tragically passed away on Aug. 12 after an accident involving a horse.
First responders confirmed to KWTX that Ashford died while attending a sick calf.
The department received the call for help shortly after 8 a.m. at a location about a mile west of Highway 7 in the Chilton, Texas area.
Ashford, a recent graduate of Rosebud-Lott High School, was reportedly working on the sick calf when the horse got spooked.
“Somehow, the man’s leg got tangled and the horse [dragged] him quite a distance in an open field,” the Lott VFD told KWTX.
Paramedics airlifted Ashford, who suffered head injuries, but was breathing and had a pulse.
He was, however, described by first responders as being in “bad shape” prior to succumbing to his injuries.
“The news of Ace’s untimely death has sent shockwaves through the community, as those who knew and loved him struggle to come to terms with the loss of a young man whose life was filled with promise, kindness, and an extraordinary sense of humility,” an obituary states.
“Ace Ashford was more than just a bright and promising student; he was a beloved son, brother, friend, and community member who touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”
