NYC Street Vendors Call For More Licensing Amid Police Crackdown
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - APRIL 18: Street vendors, many of them members of the migrant community, participate in a rally and march along Broadway demanding that vendor permits become easier to acquire on April 18, 2024 in New York City. New York City and the NYPD have begun aggressively fining and shutting down vendors without a permit. There are currently over 9,000 people on a waiting list for a mobile food permit and another 10,000 on a general permit list. Work as a vendor is often one of the few money making opportunities to recently arrived migrants. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)
