WELL, ANDREW, DEMONSTRATORS AND POLICE REMAIN FEET APART FROM EACH OTHER WHILE THEIR FELLOW DEMONSTRATORS ARE JUST RIGHT ACROSS THIS BARRIER IN AN ENCAMPMENT WHERE THEY’VE BEEN FOR ABOUT 28 HOURS, WE’RE TOLD NOW, THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT, AS THERE HAVE BEEN CHANTS AND MUSIC, THINGS LIKE THAT. WE’VE ALSO HEARD SOME ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM SOME OF THE DEMONSTRATORS SAYING THAT THERE IS A TALK HAPPENING BETWEEN SOME OF THESE DEMONSTRATORS AND MAYOR ED GAINEY, SOME KIND OF DISCUSSION AND MEETING HAS ALLEGEDLY BEEN ARRANGED. WE’RE WORKING TO CONFIRM THAT MEETING NOW WITH HIS OFFICE. BUT AS WE’VE BEEN TALKING TO SOME OF THE STUDENTS AND PROTESTERS HERE TONIGHT, THEY SAY OVERALL THIS HAS REMAINED PEACEFUL. NOTHING WAS THROWN AT POLICE. WE WERE ATTEMPTING TO GET MOSTLY SANITARY MATERIALS, HAND WIPES, OTHER THINGS TO FOOD AND WATER. RIGHT. UH, LIQUID IV TO PREVENT DEHYDRATION AND HEAT STROKE TO OUR COMRADES IN THE ENCAMPMENT. RIGHT. THESE ARE OUR FRIENDS. THESE ARE OUR LOVED ONES. MANY PEOPLE HERE HAVE FAMILY IN THERE WHO GO TO PITT RIGHT? THIS IS FOR US AS MUCH A PERSONAL ISSUE AS STANDING UP FOR PALESTINE IS A PERSONAL ISSUE. AND THIS WAS THE SCENE EARLIER THAT HE WAS JUST DESCRIBING AS DEMONSTRATORS WERE THROWING BOTTLES OF WATER AND SUPPLIES OVER TO THEIR FELLOW DEMONSTRATORS ENCAMPMENT PITTSBURGH POLICE CONFIRMED THERE WAS A UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH POLICE LIEUTENANT WHO FELL DOWN WHEN DEMONSTRATORS PULLED DOWN SOME FENCING, BUT SHE DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. BUT WHEN THAT HAPPENED, POLICE SAY A DEMONSTRATOR RECEIVED A HEAD LACERATION AND WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE AND IS STABLE. A PITT STUDENT TELLING ME WHAT THEIR IMMEDIATE GOAL IS THROUGH THIS PRO-PALESTINE DEMONSTRATION. I WANT PITT TO ACKNOWLEDGE US TO READ OUR DEMANDS, AND I WANT JOAN GABEL TO MEET WITH US. I WANT THIS IS NOT EVEN JUST PALESTINE. GABLE REFUSES TO MEET WITH A LOT OF HER STUDENTS FOR ANY OF THE CONFLICT THAT THE UNIVERSITY FACES. THERE WAS AN ARREST HERE ON SATURDAY WITH A PROTESTER, 33 YEAR OLD DONALD JOHNSON. POLICE SAY THAT HE WAS TRYING TO GET WATER AND THINGS OVER TO THE DEMONSTRATORS, BUT AT SOME POINT GOT INTO AN ALTERCATION WITH POLICE. HE IS CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND RESISTING ARREST AS WELL. WE’RE WORKING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THAT SITUATION, BUT WE’LL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW UP HERE TONIGHT TO SEE IF WE CAN CONFIRM WHAT DISCUSSIONS ARE IN PLACE BETWEEN THE MAYOR’S OFFICE AND DEMONSTRATORS NOW REPORTING LIVE IN OAKLAND, KALEA GUNDERSON PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS FOUR AND KAYLEE, THE HILLEL JEWISH UNIVERSITY CENTER AND THE JEWISH FEDERATION OF GREATER PITTSBURGH RELEASING A JOINT STATEMENT ON THE PROTEST TODAY SAYING IN PART, QUOTE, THEIR MOTIVATION IS CLEAR TO THREATEN JEWISH SAFE SPACES AND MAKE -- FEEL UNWELCOME AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH, THIS CURRENT CLIMATE OF INTOLERANCE AND DISCRIMINATION CANNOT BE IGNORED. THESE HATEFUL ACTS VIOLATE THE PRINCIPLES OF CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS DIVERSITY THAT UNIVERSITIES CHERISH AND THEY CREATE A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT THAT THREATENS THE P
