Hollywood royalty, Australian actor and theatre director Cate Blanchett is an all-round stunner and talent powerhouse. The 49-year-old, who stars in director Gary Ross's Ocean's 8 — the all-female sequel to the Ocean's trilogy — seems to prefer the English countryside to her native Australia. The two-time Academy Award-winner added a massive English manor to her real estate portfolio in 2016. Cate Blanchett purchased the $4.5 million Highwell House in the UK, located near Crowborough in the countryside of East Sussex, with playwright-director husband Andrew Upton. The home had fallen into disrepair over the years but was restored to its previous grandeur with bespoke materials and handcrafted finishes. Rubbing shoulders with the homes of the likes of fellow Oscar-winning actor Kate Winslet, Paul McCartney's ex-wife Heather Mills, and musician Bryan Ferry, the estate's grounds boast of vast lawns and a private pond with an island.
Cate Blanchett: Stately English Manor
Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton's 9,028-square-foot Victorian mansion, which was built in 1890, was once owned by Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The almost 13-acre country estate comes with seven bedrooms, eight full and two half bathrooms and five reception rooms — perfectly roomy for the couple and their four kids, Edith Vivian Patricia Upton, Roman Robert Upton, Dashiell John Upton, and Ignatius Martin Upton. The spacious red-brick property also features a family room, games room, a large eat-in kitchen, a dozen antique fireplaces, and a greenhouse. Some of the standout features of the interiors include a 19th-century French chandelier in the panelled reception hall, a 40-foot drawing room with a pair of crystal chandeliers, a secondary lounge that opens through French doors to a black slate terrace as well as a formal dining room.
Cate Blanchett: Real Estate Hopper
Ocean's 8 actor Cate Blanchett and her husband are not strangers to the property market in Sydney, Australia. The couple bought a weekend home at Berowra Waters for $1.4 million in 2014, and an investment apartment for their children in a waterfront block in Elizabeth Bay for $1.92 million. In 2013, Upton purchased an apartment in Gladesville, near their former home in Hunters Hill, for his mother for $780,000.
