April wreck claims life of driver, Semmes PD says

19-year-old Adam Luker who was severely injured in a car crash last month, has died.

Now, an urgent search is ongoing for the man who allegedly caused the wreck.

FOX10 News has obtained the official crash report that has some disturbing details.

In the crash report, it says the driver who caused the wreck, blew through a red light right before he hit Luker’s car. The report also shows the driver may have been intoxicated.

Semmes Police Chief Todd Freind says Luker died at the hospital Monday, eight days after the wreck.

A balloon release was held for him by his closest friends and family.

According to the crash report, calls started coming in shortly after 4:00 p.m. about a reckless driver.

We’ve learned a total of 14 calls came into 911 about the driver and the crash.

The diagram below shows when Luker and the unidentified driver approached each other at the intersection of Moffett Road and the turn coming out of Walmart’s parking lot.

According to a Semmes police officer, several witnesses said the unidentified driver was coming down Moffett eastbound “at a high rate of speed.”

“Officers observed two males laying on the ground near their vehicles, in obvious need of immediate medical attention,” according to the report.

The report says when the driver approached the red light, he got into the left turn lane and started going around other cars who were stopped at the light.

Luker, who had the green light, was turning onto Moffett, when he was T-boned.

When officers arrived, the report says they noticed “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver” who allegedly hit Luker and found “open and unopened alcohol containers in his car.”

Chief Freind wouldn’t identify the man they’re looking for.

According to the crash report the driver is Hispanic and doesn’t have a driver’s license.

FOX10 News asked the chief if the driver was in the country illegally, he said he didn’t know.

The family has created a GoFundMe for Luker.
