Jake Tapper Laughs at Trump’s Claim That ‘Even CNN’ Says ‘There’s No Case Here’

CNN’s Jake Tapper laughed at Donald Trump’s suggestion that “even CNN” said the prosecution in his hush money trial has no case against him.

Trump made the comment when leaving court carrying a large stack of papers on Monday, which was day 16 of the trial.

“Even CNN. Even MS-DNC. They’re saying, ‘There’s no case here!'” Trump said, deliberately mixing up the letters for MSNBC to include the letters for the Democratic National Committee.

“All right, a rather angry defendant, saying there’s no case here. And for the record, we certainly have people, such as Mr. Brennan on our panel, here, who are arguing that this is not a strong case. It’s certainly not the view of CNN, per se that there is no case here,” Tapper said with a chuckle. “We’re discussing the qualities of the case. The good, the bad, there’s disagreement. We do have people who are on Mr. Trump’s side on this…on the issue of whether this is a good case.”

William J. Brennan, Trump’s former payroll attorney, argued there was no case, but said his previous affiliation with the Trump Organization did not bring him to that conclusion.

“This is an American citizen on trial and they have to tie it up to another crime, and they have yet to do it,” Brennan said. “This has nothing to do with the fact that I represented him. I’m no ‘Trumper.’ I have no political agenda, this is a citizen…I think they haven’t made it out yet.”

Former federal prosecutor Gene Rossi said, “I just want to say this: when you see a defendant like Mr. Trump, rant and rave and just stipulate and go off on tangents, my mind was going to explode. What that tells me is that he sat through several hours of testimony and it hit home. It hit home…Donald Trump, for all his faults, he knows that Michael Cohen, in my view, was connecting with the jury.”
