Woman dies after rock thrown through her windshield

A woman died after a rock was thrown through her windshield in Burke County on Wednesday, state troopers said.

The NC State Highway Patrol found 23-year-old Brittany Elizabeth Ferguson dead of her injuries inside her 2006 Ford Taurus on Conley Road near Jeter Carswell Road.

Troopers determined that Ferguson was hit in the head and killed by a rock thrown through her windshield. Her car swerved off Conley Road and struck a house.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup driving back and forth in the area after the wreck with a man riding in the bed of the truck.

Troopers asked anyone who saw the truck to call 828-466-5500 to help with the investigation.
