Hur defends decision not to charge President Biden

Lawmakers spent hours Tuesday drilling former special counsel Robert K. Hur about his decision not to seek charges against President Biden for mishandling classified materials. Democrats focused on Hur’s decision to include disparaging details about Biden’s memory. “You made a choice. It was a political choice. It was the wrong choice,” said Rep Adam Schiff (D-Calif.). Republicans largely used their turns at the microphones to question why Hur opted not to recommend charges after finding some evidence that Biden willfully retained government materials after his vice presidency.

Hur’s 345-page report concluded that Biden carelessly kept classified documents and notebooks at his home but said the evidence wasn’t strong enough to charge the president with crimes. He is being questioned by lawmakers Tuesday.
Among the many reasons Donald Trump was charged in connection with his possession of classified documents and Biden wasn’t: Much more classified material was found at Mar-a-Lago, and prosecutors have evidence that Trump tried to obstruct government efforts to get it back.
