NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh issued an apology on Sunday after several pro-Trump firefighters and staffers booed state Attorney General Letitia James at a promotion ceremony in Brooklyn last week.

Booing was heard from the crowd as James took the stage during the ceremony on March 7 at the Christian Cultural Center in East New York to swear in civilian employees and members of the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Then, some people started chanting "Trump! Trump! Trump!”

From the stage, James asked the jeering firefighters to "simmer down." "Come on, we're in a house of God," she said.

Kavanagh later returned to the same cultural center and apologized.

“Not only is the Fire Department the greatest department in the world, it’s also the most professional fire department in the world and we let down that reputation on Thursday,” Kavanagh said.

FDNY spokesman Jim Long confirmed that the department has initiated an investigation to identify the individuals in the crowd.

Trump was hit with a $454 million civil fraud penalty after James's office filed a fraud lawsuit against him. James mentioned that she would try to seize some of Trump's assets if he cannot cover the bill, following Judge Arthur Engoron’s Feb. 16 ruling. Trump also repeatedly made remarks about James.
