WASHINGTON (TND) — Phil McGraw, best known for his TV show “Dr. Phil,” joined The Joe Rogan Experience podcast Tuesday to discuss a growing trend of minors receiving gender-altering procedures and treatments.
Though several major medical organizations support such measures, McGraw said they do not yet have accurate information to make long-term recommendations. This could lead to potentially hazardous results, he claimed.
“All the major medical associations have signed off on this, Joe,” McGraw said. "I have never seen those organizations sign off on anything with less information as to whether or not it does long-term harm of anything in my life. And when I ask about that, when I bring that up, then they immediately label you as transphobic.”
McGraw noted gender-altering procedures will not combat the root causes of an individual’s unhappiness.
The reason for doing it is it stops this drive for suicide, that there’s this suicide epidemic,” McGraw said. “It doesn’t fix that. It doesn’t fix all the comorbid issues that come along with feeling like they’re in the wrong body but yet they’re pushing this.”
McGraw went on to explain future episodes of his show will focus on child transgender procedures, which will cause viewers to be “shocked.”
“I think there is a social contagion effect,” McGraw said. “So people jump on the bandwagon and if its for a short period of time, but they’ve done things that can’t be reversed. I think that’s really tragic.”
McGraw has been an outspoken critic of transgender athletes competing with athletes from the opposite biological sex. His latest bookexplores the rise of this issue, which he claims is being pushed by those “who put ideology before sanity and stoke division for their own gain.”
