Assassin’s Creed Shadows transports players to the rich setting of feudal Japan, anchored by a soundtrack that uses traditional instruments as well as playful modern production techniques, nodding both to the time period and the series’ sci-fi, time-travelling themes. Composer duo The Flight (Joe Henson and Alexis Smith) return to the Assassin’s Creed series to provide a score that fuses traditional instrumentation with contemporary orchestral and electronic elements, creating a distinctive sense of time and place while playfully nodding to the series’ science-fiction themes. The dual protagonists of Assassin’s Creed Shadows are represented with different instruments and musical approaches: stealthy shinobi adept Naoe by her in-game instrument of choice, the clay flute (tsuchibue) and disembodied whispering during stealth moments; and legendary samurai Yasuke with the sharper sounds of the stringed Shamisen and rhythmic intensity.
