A restaurant owner in Jordan has decided to change the name of his eatery, which was named ‘October 7’ in reference to the date the of attack by Hamas on Israel in 2023.

Nabeel Al-Saraireh told sources that he removed the name after he realized that he did not have a license for the trade name from the authorities. He also said that he received many calls and questions about the name, which he said was not only inspired by the attack, but also by his daughter’s graduation from Algeria on the same date.

Al-Saraireh said that he supports the Palestinian cause and stands with the people of Gaza, who are facing Israeli aggression since October 2023. He said that he named his restaurant ‘October 7’ to show his solidarity with them.

However, the name sparked outrage among Israeli officials. Yair Lapid, the leader of the opposition in Israel, called on the Jordanian government to condemn the name and said "the disgraceful glorification of October 7 must stop." "We expect the Jordanian government to publicly and unequivocally condemn this matter," he added.

Videos of the restaurant staff wearing uniforms with ‘October 7’ written on them circulated on social media, drawing criticism from some users and praise from others.

The restaurant, which is located in Amman, has now changed its name to ‘Al-Saraireh Restaurant’.
