SHERIFF: Caregiver caught on video assaulting 93-year-old woman with dementia

GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. - The Genesee County Prosecutor's Office has charged a 26-year-old caregiver for allegedly assaulting a woman with dementia on her 93rd birthday, and the incident was caught on video.

26-year-old Dontia Shawnra Arrington, a Flint Twp. woman, has been charged with the following:

• VULNERABLE ADULT ABUSE - 1ST DEGREE
• TORTURE
• ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO DO GREAT BODILY HARM LESS THAN MURDER
  

During a press conference held by Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson and Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton on Thursday, nanny cam footage was shown depicting the alleged assaults.

The video showed the caregiver hitting the 93-year-old woman with a used diaper and attempting to choke her, according to Sheriff Chris Swanson.

The daughter of the 93-year-old woman spoke during the press conference.

Family told Mid-Michigan NOW that the incident allegedly took place at the Landings of Genesee Valley: Senior Living Community in Flint Twp. Mid-Michigan NOW reached out to the facility for comment.

Landings of Genesee Valley is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation regarding last week’s incident. We cannot provide more details at this time as we do not want to interfere with that process. We also need to respect the privacy rights of our residents. We have taken appropriate actions, including personnel decisions and enforcement of our policies, to internally address the situation.
