The Biden-Xi summit in San Francisco has not even begun, and already the United States has taken a massive strategic loss.
Per early reports, the president and the Chinese supremo will agree to a crackdown on China’s manufacture and export of chemical precursors to fentanyl.
That’s great — in theory.
China produces compounds exported to Mexico’s cartels, who then use them to poison Americans for profit, killing tens of thousands a year.
But Beijing officially clamped down on fentanyl in 2019, with little visible effect.
Reportedly, getting these new promises will require us to drop our technology sanctions on the Chinese Ministry of Public Security’s Institute of Forensic Science.
This Orwellian governmental body was sanctioned under the Trump administration for its human-rights abuses against Uighurs.
In other words, Biden has agreed not only to give American moral imprimatur to China’s continued genocide against an internal minority, but to improve its access to our technology, the better to keep on violating human rights — and to conduct espionage in this country.
And in exchange?
We will most likely get nothing at all.
Does anyone seriously believe Xi will actually follow through on the promised drug crackdown, when he’s failed to before?
The man feels so utterly unconstrained by US power that he has sent spy balloons into our airspace and made common cause with Russia.
His secret police cadres hunt critics of the regime on American soil, as chillingly documented for The Post by Rep. Mike Gallagher.
And apparatchiks of his government are suspected of hoovering up data on Americans and propagandizing our kids (trashing their brains in the process) via TikTok, owned by China’s ByteDance.
Remember too that Biden is even now refusing to hold China meaningfully to account over its coverup on the origins of COVID.
Viewed from Beijing’s corridors of power, he’s far more a figure of fun than one to be feared.
And that’s to say nothing of the fact that Biden’s own border policies are what’s driving the US fentanyl crisis in the first place.
By inviting and then waving in tidal waves of illegal migrants, Biden and his enablers have made real border enforcement impossible — letting cartels operate and infiltrate and market their drugs with ease.
Biden himself is the reason we are now forced to cut this humiliating, empty deal with Xi.
Don’t believe the empty trumpeting sure to come from the White House once the deal is concluded.
Biden’s killing Americans, with China’s help — and no amount of geopolitical theater can hide that fact.
