    ON APRIL 6, 2023, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 429, AS AMENDED.

    AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to prohibit a county, municipality, or metropolitan government from expending funds for the purposes of studying or disbursing reparations. As used in this amendment, "reparations" means money or benefits provided to individuals who are the descendants of persons who were enslaved.

    ON APRIL 24, 2024, THE HOUSE SUBSTITUTED SENATE BILL 429 FOR HOUSE BILL 474 AND ADOPTED AMENDMENT #2. SENATE BILL 429, AS ADOPTED, WAS TABLED.

    AMENDMENT #2 rewrites the bill to, instead, prohibit a county, municipality, or metropolitan government from expending funds for the purposes of studying or disbursing reparations. As used in the bill, "reparations" means money or benefits provided to an individual who is the descendant of persons who were enslaved as compensation for the enslavement of the individual's ancestors.
