HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The race for Alabama House District 10 is coming down to the wire between candidates Marilyn Lands (D) and Teddy Powell (R).

On Tuesday, Alabama voters within District 10 will head to the booths for a special election between the two.

Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones joined Lands in Huntsville on Saturday to help assist with her campaign.

“I’m here for her,” Jones said. “This is a big race. This community has an opportunity to send someone to the state legislature who cares about the entire community.”

Jones said he feels optimistic about Lands’ campaign heading into Tuesday.

“I believe it’ll send a strong message across the state and the country that Alabama is ready to move in a new, positive direction,” Jones said.

Recently sharing her own abortion story, Lands said she is determined to shed some light on the issue.

“It just seems wrong that we have taken a giant leap backwards there” Lands said. “Families are in crisis, and women’s health is at risk.”

Lands also spoke about issues such as mental health as well as why she believes she belongs in Montgomery.

“I want the people of Huntsville and District 10 to know how much I love living here and how much I want our state lifted up, I’m tired of us being 49th and 50th in all the metrics that matter,” she said.

WAFF has also spoke with Lands’ opponent Teddy Powell, we will have more from his campaign on Sunday.
