"I think Asia is going to play a bigger role as the center of the global economy is shifting to Asia, which is an indisputable fact. Now cross-border e-commerce is developing very fast and half of it is actually in Asia. The centers of some new industries and new forms of business are now in China. There are also new energy and more and more new products in Asia. So, its position in the world will become more and more important. So arguably Asia is now becoming an important driver of the global economy. Some people even regard it as the most important driving force. The pattern of global economic cooperation has also seen some changes."

"The development of Asia offers us great opportunities. For example, the relationship between China and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is crucial for us. ASEAN is our largest trading partner and also one of the most important investment destinations for China, with the outward FDI stock topping 380 billion U.S. dollars. So all of this speaks to a shift in the focus of global trade and investment with the shift of economic focus. Hence, this has formed a new pattern in China's opening-up. So the importance of Asia is growing."

"It's not that we want to exclude the United States and the West. We also attach great importance to cooperation with the United States and Western countries. But we want to let others share the dividends of the rise of Asia and China together. This is a very obvious attitude of the Chinese government. China builds infrastructure around the world and boosts global interconnectivity under its Belt and Road Initiative. China also holds the import expo in Shanghai, enabling foreigners to come to China to set up stalls and sell things. All these important measures promote a consensus around the world that China's development is not a threat but an opportunity. We want to share the dividends of China's development with the rest of the world and we should make this concept heard very clearly."

China's development creates opportunities for the rest of the world rather than poses threats, said Long Yongtu, former chief of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) in south China's Hainan Province on Wednesday.
The BFA Annual Conference 2024, which is going on in Hainan's Boao Town, lasts from Tuesday to Friday. This year's conference has four major sections: the global economy, sci-tech innovation, social development, and international cooperation, covering more than 40 sub-forum activities.
In an interview with China Central Television (CCTV), Long Yongtu, China's former chief negotiator for entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), who also served as secretary-general of the BFA from 2003 to 2010, said Asia is becoming increasingly important in the world, which offers opportunities for China's development.
So all of this speaks to a shift in the focus of global trade and investment with the shift of economic focus. Hence, this has formed a new pattern in China's opening-up. So the importance of Asia is growing," said Long.
He said China should make its voice heard so that the world is able to benefit reciprocally from its development.
"It's not that we want to exclude the United States and the West. We also attach great importance to cooperation with the United States and Western countries. But we want to let others share the dividends of the rise of Asia and China together. This is a very obvious attitude of the Chinese government. Founded in 2001, the BFA is a non-governmental and non-profit international organization committed to promoting regional economic integration and bringing Asian countries closer to their development goals.
