Budd Fights to Stop Illegal Aliens Who Assault Police, Commit Theft from Becoming Citizens

Washington, D.C. — Early this morning, Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) forced a Senate vote on two amendments to the second government funding package.

The first amendment he proposed prevents illegal aliens who commit the crime of assaulting a law enforcement officer from ever obtaining legal status or citizenship.

The second amendment he offered prevents illegal aliens who commit the crime of burglary, theft, or shoplifting from being granted legal status or citizenship.

Senator Budd called out Senate Democrats who were threatening a government shutdown over these amendments in a video on social media

“Tonight, we’re fighting for two principles: If an illegal alien harms a police officer, they should get deported. If an illegal alien commits the crime of theft or shoplifting, they get detained. Democrats would rather shut down the government than do the right thing.”

After Senate Democrats resisted a fair, up-or-down vote on the Senate floor past the midnight funding deadline, Senator Budd forced the chamber to vote on both amendments. All 51 Senate Democrats opposed both amendments.

After the votes, Senator Budd posted on social media: “We fought the good fight. More to come…”
