BOONVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Three suspects were taken into custody after Boonville Police say they stole thousands of dollars worth of baby formula from Walmart.

On Thursday, officers were called to the Walmart in Boonville for a reported theft.

Employees told them suspects had stolen baby formula and left the parking lot.

Police say they stopped the suspect vehicle near SR 261 and Eskew Road and noticed a large amount of baby formula inside.

According to police, 576 containers of stolen baby formula were inside the car, totaling $22,495.41.

Officers say this uncovered a larger theft ring that included shoplifting from Walmarts in Newburgh, Jasper and Evansville.

Police say three suspects were involved, two adults and one juvenile out of the Dallas, Texas area.

As a result of the investigation, Edgar S. Ramirez and Nora Y. Zarate were arrested.

One Boonville Police Department officer says it’s definitely an unusual case.

”This is my first time ever working any type of baby formula theft,” said Sergeant Seth Kyle. “Usually people are going for your high end electronics or sometimes there’s people that are kleptos that wanna steal.”

The investigation is ongoing.

If there are any other agencies or Walmarts that notice any baby formula thefts, they’re asked to reach out to Boonville Police and call (812) 897-6542.
