Photo: Shannon Finney/Getty Quavo is launching a $100,000 gun prevention program in Atlanta. The rapper, 32, and his foundation, The Rocket Foundation, launched the SPARK Grants program on Wednesday, which will work on reducing gun violence in Atlanta. According to a press release, the program will help foster community resilience by awarding $10,000 to 10 organizations that work on reducing violence in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. The non-profit recipients of the grant will then collaborate with The Rocket Foundation on initiatives that will aid change in the community. Shannon Finney/Getty Images for The Rocket Foundation Quavo Opens Up About Takeoff's Death: 'Sometimes I Cry Myself to Sleep' “I am honored to launch this grant program to honor Take and the countless families that have been affected by gun violence,” Quavo said in a statement. “The Rocket Foundation will be giving out $100K in SPARK grants to local orgs dedicated to reducing community violence in Atlanta.” He added, “There is a lot of important work going on in ATL right now, and part of our mission is to uplift these organizations and support them to help save more lives.” Organizations have until April 21 to apply for the grant and “they must be a registered nonprofit 501(c)(3) or be fiscally sponsored by one, submitting for an existing or piloting initiative impacting the Atlanta metropolitan region.” Quavo Shares Moving Tribute for Nephew Takeoff: 'You Are Our Angel' Applicants are also preferred to be based or have a headquarters in Atlanta, as well as have “proof of evidence-based initiative.” While nine of the organizations will be decided by the Rocket Foundation, a 10th non-profit will be voted on by the general public via The Rocket Foundation's website. Meanwhile, all 10 grant recipients will be announced on June 18, marking the birthday of Quavo's nephew and Migos co-member, Takeoff. Takeoff died at the age of 28 in November 2022 after he was shot outside a downtown bowling alley in Houston, Texas. Quavo founded The Rocket Foundation in 2022 to honor the life and legacy of Takeoff, supporting programs that work towards preventing gun violence.
