An incident of security breach was reported in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, 13 December, after two youngsters jumped from the visitor’s gallery and allegedly burst smoke canisters, creating panic among the lawmakers present in the House as the session was underway.

The incident came on the day of the 22nd Parliament attack anniversary.

Reports said one of the visitors, who jumped into Lok Sabha chamber from gallery, was seen leaping over benches.

A YSRCP MP told News18 that one person tried to approach the speaker after jumping from the visitor’s gallery.

Two people - a man and a woman - have been detained. A joint interrogation will happen soon. As per reports, multiagency joint interrogation will happen in the incident.

Preliminary probe suggested that the canister was hidden in the shoes of the two people.

BJP MP Rajendra Agarwal, who was presiding over the Chair of Speaker, said “There is a loophole for sure. When the first person came down, we thought he might have fallen but when the second person started coming down, all of us became cautious. The person tried to open his shoes and took something out after which smoke came out. Action will be taken against this. The Speaker and responsible people will make the decision on this. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also reached the House when all of this happened…”

The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 2 pm.

Security agencies have been asked to go through all CCTV footage. The footages are being checked and staff who were on duty are being questioned about how did the breach happen.

Anti-terror unit special cell of the Delhi Police reached inside the Parliament to question the people who caused the security breach at the Lok Sabha.

Who were the two people protesting outside Parliament?

There was protest reported outside Parliament too. Two protestors, a male and female have been detained by local police in front of Transport Bhawan where they were protesting with colour smoke.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said he saw two young men unleash foul smelling yellow coloured gas from canisters inside Parliament gallery. “One person was raising some slogans. This raises serious questions on another aspect of the new Parliament building- security,” he added.

Another Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said the two people were shouting some slogans and had canister emitting yellow color.

“Very unfortunate that parliament attacked again on anniversary,” Karti said.

“I don’t know, unknown people jumped from the gallery. More than one person. They started shouting slogans, and spraying some gas,” Trinamool Congress leader Kakoli Dastidar said.

“Both of them were overpowered by security officials,” MP Danish Ali said.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant said since the benches at the back of the Lok Sabha were unoccupied which helped in catching hold of the duo.

TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said, “It was a terrible experience. Nobody could guess what was their target and why were they doing this. We all left the House immediately, but it was a security lapse.”

What’s not allowed inside Parliament? 

No water bottles, paper are allowed in the Parliament. Also, no visitor are permitted to even carry a sheet of paper. Only media is allowed their cell phone.
