About this app

Aegis Authenticator is a free, secure and open source app to manage your 2-step verification tokens for your online services.

Compatibility
Aegis supports the HOTP and TOTP algorithms. These two algorithms are industry-standard and widely supported, making Aegis compatible with thousands of services. Any web service that supports Google Authenticator will also work with Aegis Authenticator.

Encryption and biometric unlock
All of your one-time passwords are stored in a vault. If you choose to set a password (highly recommended), the vault will be encrypted using strong cryptography. If someone with malicious intent gets a hold of the vault file, it’s impossible for them to retrieve the contents without knowing the password. Entering your password each time you need access to a one-time password can be cumbersome. Fortunately, you can also enable biometric unlock if your device has a biometrics sensor (i.e. fingerprint or face unlock).

Organization
Over time, you'll likely accumulate tens of entries in your vault. Aegis Authenticator has lots of organization options to make finding the one you need at a particular moment easier. Set a custom icon for an entry to make it easier to find. Search by account name or service name. Have a lot of one-time passwords? Add them to custom groups for easier access. Personal, Work and Social can each get their own group.

Backups
To make sure you will never lose access to your online accounts, Aegis Authenticator can create automatic backups of the vault to a location of your choosing. If your cloud provider supports the Storage Access Framework of Android (like Nextcloud does), it can even create automatic backups to the cloud. Creating manual exports of the vault is also supported.

Making the switch
To make the switch easier, Aegis Authenticator can import the entries of lots of other authenticators, including: Authenticator Plus, Authy, andOTP, FreeOTP, FreeOTP+, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Steam, TOTP Authenticator and WinAuth (root access is required for the apps that don't have an option to export).

Just started using the app, and I appreciate the focus on giving users control of their sensitive data. One question: have you considered adding PIN unlock to the home screen for users who don't use Biometrics and want a fast access method to open their vault? I understand users can change their password to a PIN, which does the same thing in effect. But some users would prefer to keep their PW and encryption key robust (with a variety of characters) while opting for a PIN unlock after PW entry.

Good stuff. If the password reminders are driving you crazy, they can be disabled in the settings! Much thanks for the rep who patiently helped me out! Also these guys are great at taking feedback online and actually incorporating the lessons. Anyway, it's a great TOTP option! It's FOSS. You can see all the codes at once, so no excessive taps are required. There are actually sorting options! (Looking at you, Authy.) Better yet, there's no vendor lock in! (Glaring at you, Authy.)

UPDATE: The biometrics button is still available so we don't lock our users out who actually have forgotten their password, it was never intended as a "remind me later" feature. Glad your issue has been resolved though! Feel free to send us an email if you have any other questions, we're more than happy to help you out.

This app far exceeded my expectations! The security of this 2FA app surpasses any similar app, mainly because it has security options and the other apps don't. I very much like that I can hide all codes and only show what I need. I've only had one minor issue, and that is its cooperation with lastpass. Lastpass pops up to input the password, but I just want to use the fingerprint method. Upon closing the lastpass pop-up, it won't take my fingerprint. I'm certain that I can stop lastpass from popping up for this specific app, but I don't understand why this app stops accepting fingerprints after it does.
