MADISON POLICE ADDING EXTRA PATROLS AND SEARCHING FOR EVIDENCE IN AN ATTACK THAT’S UNSETTLED THE CITY AND CAMPUS. THE COPS WERE KNOCKING ON OUR DOOR AT FOUR IN THE MORNING, SO IT WAS KIND OF SCARY. FELLOW STUDENTS SAY POLICE TOLD THEM THE 20 YEAR OLD WOMAN WAS ATTACKED AROUND 320 IN THE MORNING. APPARENTLY BY A STRANGER, IT WAS JUST KIND OF TERRIFYING BECAUSE I WAS LIKE, THAT KIND OF COULD HAVE BEEN ME. SO THAT’S WHAT SCARED ME. AND YEAH, SO WE HAVE OUR DOORS LOCKED NOW AND WE’RE JUST SCARED AND WE HOPE THEY CATCH WHOEVER IT WAS. ACCORDING TO A NEIGHBOR, THE YOUNG WOMAN WAS ATTACKED IN THIS AREA BETWEEN TWO HOUSES RIGHT HERE. ONE OF THE NEIGHBORS HERE HEARD HER CRYING FOR HELP. AND QUICKLY CALLED POLICE. A FRIEND OF THE VICTIM TELLS ME THE UW SENIOR WAS STRANGLED, BEATEN AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTED. SHE ALSO SUFFERED A BROKEN JAW, BUT IS SAID TO BE RECOVERING TODAY AFTER POLICE SUNDAY SAID SHE WAS IN CRITICAL CONDITION. MEANTIME, POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR VIDEO FROM THE AREA OF BEDFORD AND WILSON AND HOPING EVEN DNA MIGHT LEAD TO THE SUSPECT. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF INTERVIEWING PEOPLE, COLLECTING EVIDENCE, TAKING PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTING THE SCENE. WE ARE SWABBING FOR BIOLOGY EVIDENCE. THE UNIVERSITY PUT OUT AN ALERT TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS, MANY OF WHOM JUST MOVED THEIR CHILDREN BACK TO CAMPUS OVER THE WEEKEND WITH CLASSES STARTING WEDNESDAY USUALLY PRETTY CAUTIOUS, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT, BUT DEFINITELY WE TEND TO HOLD MY KEYS A LITTLE TIGHTER. USUALLY HAVE SOME OTHER PEOPLE WALKING WITH ME AT ALL TIMES. I THINK THAT’S THE BEST THING. TRAVEL IN GROUPS AND HOPE THE INVESTIGATION LEADS TO A QUICK ARREST.
